I paid off my house and my mortgage company will not be paying my taxes this year, what should I do?: Call the La Porte Tax Office at 281-471-5020 to have them mail you a bill and submit a letter in writing that you would like all future statements mailed directly to you. 2. When are taxes billed?: Tax bills are mailed out in October.

3. When are taxes due?: Taxes are due upon receipt and are due no later than January 31.

4. Who do I call if I did not receive a bill?: You will need to contact all taxing authorities that tax your property.

5. What happens if I do not pay my taxes by the due date?: Penalty and interest shall accrue on the unpaid tax as follows:
February: 7%
March: 9%
April: 11%
May: 13%
June:15%
July: 18%.

On July 1, all unpaid taxes are turned over to the delinquent tax attorneys for collection and are also subject to a 15% attorney fee.

6. When should I file for my exemptions?: Exemptions need to be filed by January 1 or as soon there after.

7. What are my responsibilities?: You must apply for the general exemption before the deadlines in the appraisal district where your property is located. You must see that your property is listed correctly on the tax records with your correct name, current address and property description. You must pay your taxes on time.
