1. Do you have to live in La Porte to have a membership at the Fitness Center?

No, we offer both, individual and family resident and nonresident memberships. For more information on rates, plans, and hours, please call 281-470-9891 or visit our Recreation and Fitness Center page.

2. Are classes included in memberships at the Fitness Center?

No, classes are not included in the membership fee but members do get a discounted rate for classes that they choose to attend.

3. How do I reserve the Seabreeze Park?

You must be a La Porte resident to reserve the Seabreeze Park however, guests do not have to be residents of La Porte to attend a reserved event.

Reservations must be made in person at the Parks and Recreation Office located at 1322 South Broadway to reserve the Seabreeze Park for a party of 50 or less.

Due to the various stipulations regarding usage (for example, insurance for jumping apparatus), we do not take phone reservations. Also, we do not reserve the whole park, but we do reserve 6 picnic tables under the pavilion. You may possibly have to share with another party or other scheduled event.

4. How do I rent the Sylvan Beach Pavilion?

The Sylvan Beach Pavilion is owned and operated through Harris County Precinct 2. For more information, please call Precinct 2 at 281-457-0694 or visit the Sylvan Beach Pavilion website.

5. How can a business get a corporate membership to the Fitness Center for its employees?

Corporate memberships may be purchased for an annual term available for companies / corporations with 10 or more participating employees. Call 281-470-9891 for more information.

6. What recreational activities do you have for children?

We have field trips, summer camps and athletic programs, and various special events throughout the year. We also offer karate and cheer classes. For more information about special events and programs, please visit the

7. How much does it cost to join the Senior Center?

There is no charge to join the Senior Center. Prospective members must be at least 60 years of age to join the Norman L. Malone Senior Center. A spouse under 60 may join with the eligible spouse and participate with him or her for specific events and programs offered by the Senior Center.

8. How much does it cost to take senior water aerobics?

There is no charge for water aerobics for La Porte residents who are members of the Senior Center. If you are not a resident of La Porte and wish to take water aerobics, then you must purchase a Fitness Center membership.

9. Is lunch served at the Senior Center?

Yes, a meal is served to members at noon, Monday through Friday. A reservation must be made at least 2 days in advance to be assured a meal.

There is no charge for meals, however, donations are gratefully accepted. Donations may be as little or as much as you feel comfortable in giving.

10. Is there transportation to the Senior Center?

Yes, there is free transportation for La Porte, Morgan’s Point and Shoreacres residents. A City-owned bus or van is used to pick up members in the morning and take home after lunch at no charge.

11. Do you offer Meals on Wheels and if so, how does one qualify?

Yes, Meals on Wheels is available to residents of La Porte, Shoreacres, and Morgan’s Point. To qualify, one has to be medically home-bound and have no one available to prepare a meal for them. There is a simple questionnaire to be filled out and submitted for verification, to establish eligibility. For more information please contact the Norman L. Malone Senior Center.

12. How do I rent a City indoor or outdoor facility?

We have 2 recreation centers, wave pool and 2 municipal pools, La Porte Livestock / Rodeo Arena, and ball fields available for rent for any special occasion. For more information, please contact the Parks and Recreation Department.
