Sergeant Bennie Boles is a 20 year veteran (seven as a reserve officer) of the La Porte Police Department. He is currently assigned as the Traffic Division Supervisor having recently left the position of Chief of Staff to the office Chief of Police. In his current assignment he supervises all activities and incidents related to the movement of vehicles within the City of La Porte. He is tasked with grant management for all TXDOT grants to include impaired driving mobilization and the yearlong comprehensive traffic enforcement grant. Boles is also assigned the position of Public Information Officer (PIO) for the police department and works with the City of La Porte Office of Emergency Management PIO team when activated. While assigned as Chief of Staff he is the Public Information Officer and Internal Affairs Supervisor. He most recently served as Swing Shift Patrol Sergeant. The swing shift was tasked as a proactive unit made up of two K9 and a traffic officer. The unit was proactive in seeking out those who chose to commit crimes in the community of La Porte. The primary focus was through traffic enforcement/interdiction tactics. DWI enforcement was a priority for the unit. Other than patrol he works Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Traffic Enforcement, Crash Reconstruction, Drug Recognition Officer (DRE), Breath Test Operator (BTO), Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) Instructor and DARE. Sergeant Boles is a Chaplain for the La Porte Police Department. He is also a La Porte Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni, having completed the CPA in 1998 prior to becoming a police officer.
He is passionate about his community and serving others. He is a past president of the Deer Park Rotary and Police Chaplain with the Deer Park Police Department. He has served on several boards and committees within his community. Currently, he serves on the Houston Galveston Area Council (HGAC) Traffic Safety Committee and is a past board member for MADD South East Texas Advisory Council.
Bennie has received multiple awards and commendations to include: The MADD Outstanding Service Award for 2016, is a two-time recipient of the MADD Hero award for Harris County 2010 and 2012. The BACODA Leadership Award 2010, MADD DWI Enforcement Award for the La Porte Police Department 2009 through 2014, Life-Saving Award 2010 ad 2016, Deer Park Citizen of the Year 2010. The La Porte Police Department Employee of the Quarter 3rd Quarter 2013. City of La Porte Employee of the Quarter 2nd Quarter 2010, Employee of the 4th Quarter 2016 and Employee of the Year 2016.
Bennie currently holds a Master Peace Officer’s Certification from the Texas Commission On Law Enforcement. He is also certified as a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE), Police Instructor, Intoxilyzer Operator, Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) Instructor/Practitioner, Crash Reconstructionist, and Public Information Officer. He is an adjunct instructor for UHD Police Academy. He has a Bachelors of Science in Organizational Leadership from Mountain State University and a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice Leadership and Management through Sam Houston State University. He is a graduate of the Leadership Command College - Class 82, of the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas, Sam Houston State University.
