|Office of Emergency Management|
The City of La Porte Office of Emergency Management (OEM) works with local industry and surrounding agencies to mitigate natural and man-made disasters. We encourage preparedness for the citizens of La Porte and those who work in our community by providing education on how to best prepare for all types of emergencies. In addition, we work with organizations throughout the city to plan and train for emergency situations, as well as to coordinate response and recovery efforts when an emergency occurs. Most importantly, we help the citizens of La Porte and the surrounding communities recover when disaster strikes.

MEDICAL RESERVE CORPS CLASS - APRIL 24TH
During an emergency, government and non-governmental agencies rely heavily on the skill set of volunteers to provide key services to members of the community. The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is a national network of volunteers committed to improving the public health, emergency response, and resiliency of their communities. In the past, MRC volunteers in Harris County have helped with anything from assisting with the City of Houston’s H1N1 Vaccination Clinic, to helping deliver Meals on Wheels to the elderly, to staffing shelters with medical needs after a hurricane. In all of those situations, volunteer medical support was desperately needed and the Medical Reserve Corps of Harris County helped fill those needs with trained volunteers.
The City of La Porte is hosting a free class on April 24th from 6:00-9:00pm at the La Porte Police Department. You must be 18 to attend; however, 14-17 can attend with a parent or guardian. Volunteers are trained to help meet medical needs that may overwhelm local responders during a disaster.
Contact the La Porte Office of Emergency Management at 281-470-0010 or email@example.com to register for the class.
