La Porte, TXVisitors to La Porte who fondly remember days in the sun at Sylvan Beach will soon be able to re-live those memories at the newly revitalized beachfront at Sylvan Beach Park. The Sylvan Beach Shoreline Protection and Beach Nourishment Project, a joint venture between the City of La Porte, Harris County, and the Texas General Land Office, began in May and is well on its way towards completion. Project managers expect that the project will be complete by December 2009.
On the north end of the project, the old original pier pilings have been removed and the bank has been stabilized. The old bulkhead has been removed on the south end of the project and two of the four groins are currently under construction.
The project is currently ahead of schedule and if all conditions continue to be favorable for construction, the project will be finished by its expected completion date.
