Officer Moore is a 27 year veteran of the LaPorte Police Department, who began his service with the City on August 8, 1982. During his tenure with the police department he has been assigned to the Patrol Division, Criminal Investigation Division, and Traffic division (Motor Officer). Sherman was also one of the first dedicated Internal Affairs Investigators for the City of LaPorte. He has served as a Field Training Officer and final evaluator of new recruits to the Police Department and his current assignment is in Support Services with special attention to his role as a Police Area Representative for P.A.R. District 1. In addition to his P.A.R. duties, Officer Moore concurrently serves as the Municipal Court Bailiff.
Sherman holds a Master Peace Officer Certificate from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards & Education and has attended many schools and seminars concerning Law Enforcement and criminal investigation/detection.
Officer Moore has been invited to speak about his private ventures throughout the United States and Bermuda. He is considered a renowned speaker across the nation concerning the importance of Crime Stoppers and is recognized as an expert in the field of interviewing for the purpose of Crime Stoppers.
Officer Moore has lived within the City of LaPorte since his initial employment. He is married with two children - one attending University of Houston - Clear Lake with a major in child development and special education, and the other attending Sam Houston State University with a major in forensic science. Both of Sherman’s children are graduates of LaPorte ISD.
Sherman has a strong interest in politics, on both the local and federal levels. His hobbies include motorcycles, traveling, maritime activities and the restoration of classic yachts.
