John Krueger is a U.S. Army veteran who began his policing career in 1997 and has since held various assignments as a Patrolman, Detective, Sergeant, and Lieutenant. His certifications have included Field Training Officer, Advanced Accident Investigator, Drug Recognition Expert, Police Instructor, and Physical Fitness Assessor. He has also held additional specialty assignments in Emergency Operations, Planning & Research, Internal Affairs, Training & Recruitment, Public Information, S.W.A.T., Field Training Coordination, and agency Leadership Development.
John holds a Master’s degree in Adult Psychosocial Development from Texas Tech and has also completed several additional hours of post-graduate study and research in the field of Psychology through the Texas Tech University system.
He is a graduate of the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas’ (L.E.M.I.T.) Leadership Command College, Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff & Command, is a certified Master Peace Officer and has received continued training among several supervisory management programs offered through the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration, as well as the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development series. He has also earned an additional Master’s degree in Criminal Justice Management from Sam Houston State University and has attained Certified Public Manager (CPM) designation, through the Hobby School of Public Service at Texas State University.
Organizational and community involvement is important for John. His participation has included volunteer service as a member of several City and Department-sponsored employee wellness and emergency service committees, as well as membership and participation among other State and National coalitions for emergency responders. John also believes in active service within a home church, having served in the roles of Elder, Bible Studies Instructor, Welcoming Committee member, Young Adult Ministries Facilitator, and Safety Team & Emergency Response associate, along with external service as a regional ambassador for a Houston-area, non-denominational, radio station.
John is a Christian husband and father who presently spends a portion of his off-duty time serving as a Psychology professor with the San Jacinto College District, but also places high importance on attending family gatherings and assisting in church-related activities.
His personal hobbies include exercise and nutrition, which has contributed toward John being a 4x medalist in the Texas Police Games (biathlon & octathlon). Additionally, John is a Cooper Institute certified Law Enforcement Fitness Instructor, and is one of two (2) agency Physical Fitness assessors for the department. However, John’s main interest remains time with family. He and his wife have been married since 1999 and together enjoy two children.
