Ron Parker joined the department in 1984 and was recognized as “Rookie Officer of the Year” in 1985. He transferred to the Criminal Investigations Division as a detective in 1986. In 1991, he promoted to Sergeant, where it was during this tour of duty that he was awarded the Medal of Merit and the Medal of Valor. In 1997, Parker promoted to Lieutenant and was assigned as a Patrol commander. He transferred to the Support Services Division in 2000 as commander and then was appointed as Assistant Chief of Police in 2008 and given command of the Support Services and Criminal Investigations Divisions.
Parker has received a number of written commendations, several medals, and various awards. He has been recognized as the City’s Employee of the Quarter, Employee of the Year, and as Manager of the Year on two separate occasions. The Texas House of Representatives recognized him as Texas’ Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. He serves as an assessor for the Texas Police Chiefs Association’s Accreditation Program and is a volunteer for the community and the Chamber of Commerce.
Parker holds several degrees, including an Associate’s Degree in Engineering Technology, an Associate’s in Criminal Justice, a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice Administration and a Master’s in Criminal Justice Leadership and Management. He has also completed the FBI Law Enforcement Executives Course and the Command Staff Leadership Seminar at Sam Houston State University. He is currently a member of the National Domestic Preparedness Coalition, Texas Police Chief’s Association, and many other organizations. He has been published by the Texas State Historical Society and is a Recognized Leadership Fellow by the Texas Municipal League’s Inaugural Leadership Academy. He is also a Certified Public Manager, completing the Hobby School of Public Service at Texas State University.
