In May of 2007, he promoted to Sergeant and has supervised Patrol shifts, Field Training, SWAT, Support Services to include Community Programs, Jail operations and as the department Training Coordinator. Just before his promotion to Lieutenant Ditrich was the Street Crimes Supervisor where he supervised police investigations focusing on crimes impacting the community such as Burglary, Theft, Gambling, Prostitution, and Narcotics. He has remained an active member of the SWAT team since joining the team in August of 1999 and has been supervising SWAT operations since he his promotion to the rank of Sergeant.
Doug has been instrumental in developing and administering the department Physical Assessment Program for Police Applicants as well as quarterly incentive testing for incumbent officers. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership from Mountain State University. Additionally, he has a Master Peace Officer Certification and is a Licensed Police Instructor and Firearms Instructor. Upon his promotion to the rank of Lieutenant, he returned to the Patrol Division. In October of 2018, Doug was appointed to commander of the Support Services Division with oversight of the La Porte Animal Adoption Center, Communications, Recruiting and Training as well as numerous other responsibilities as assigned.
