Special Olympics

This program is offered to participants with intellectual disabilities ages 8 to adult. Participants compete in:
  • Basketball
  • Bocce
  • Bowling
  • Track and field
  • Volleyball

Cooperative Program
This program is a cooperative program with the La Porte Independent School District (LPISD). Participants from ages 8 to graduation are under LPISD and adults are under the Special Populations Organized Recreation Therapy (SPORT) program.

  • Days: Tuesday and Thursday
  • Time: 4 - 5 p.m.
Special Olympics Banquet Awards
The Annual La Porte Special Olympics Banquet was recently held at the Special Programs Center. The La Porte Special Olympics is cosponsored by the La Porte Parks and Recreation Department and the La Porte Independent School District. All of the Special Olympic athletes were honored at the banquet for their hard work, dedication, and received a certificate of participation. Special awards were given to the following participants:
  • Athlete Achievement Award: Victoria Stanley
  • Athlete of the Year: Doug Hershberger
  • Basketball Most Improved: Austin Fortune
  • Bocce Most Improved: Jon Brekke
  • Sportsmanship Award: Kascius Cartright
  • Track Most Improved: Trent Carmichael
  • Volleyball Most Improved: Marcos Rocha
